Speaking Up for Individualism
We can argue about whether it's important to teach children to turn off the lights when they leave the room.
Small houselights are not a high priority for improving social responsibility or reducing carbon emissions. But I'm personally quite neurotic, so if I ever have kids they will certainly be coached on this and many other little things!
However, it's a bit insulting when a hotel asks me—as an adult customer—to help save the planet by conserving water or leaving my towel unlaundered. Like, hello, do you think my goal in life is to waste water?
Speaking up for collectivism seems to be a midwit trap. It's safe to assume reasonable people aren't trying to destroy society or the planet.
In fact, these people are probably already trying their best to save it. Distracting them with sustainability ads and cookie banners only serves to slow us down.
And if someone is actively trying to harm humanity, they probably aren't listening to collectivist exhortations at all.
You may have noticed I don't actually have anything to say about individualism at all...
Let people be free.
Enable personal choices.
Don't get in the way.
