Music or Madness?

Last week in the gym I started bopping to background Dua Lipa while squatting. It occurred to me that I'd love to make more music.

At MIT I dabbled in poetry and composing. I'm proud of my binary string quartet above. More recently, the new theme song for Capitalism Unlocked was ai-generated.

Creating stuff is more fun than ever now. Why should I be grinding on youtube to publish relatively boring, esoteric content?

Although pop music might capture the vibes of the moment and resonate with us as individuals, the substance of a song is limited. It might inspire us indirectly, but the song itself is just an observation. Kinda like a single blog post, or like finance signals.

I don't enjoy spectating mainstream sports. I find it challenging to sit still and observe the action. I tried and discovered that I'm not interested in finance, nor am I interested in writing a single blog post.

I prefer spending my time on the infinite game as a Blogger and a Builder, with a capital B. As I'm not suited for the arena of vanilla VC, I'm creating my own version based entirely on people and trust instead of products and fine print. I like doing my own flavor of diligence.

But I'm glad Ed Sheeran exists, thank you very much. "Supermarket Flowers" contributed to my tattoos and "What Do I Know" is one of my all-time favorite songs.

To my eyes, although it might be survivor bias, he deserves to win the lottery of talent. I harbor no ill will towards him for reaping any attendant fame and fortune. He spoke and conquered, good for him.

The machines of production behind Dua Lipa benefit everyone, whether we understand them fully or we're not a fan.

I'm an engineer, so I gravitate towards tinkering with machines and systems. Just like I said in the introduction to my chess book, I choose this madness.
