Responsibility For The Culture
If you don't like how other people behave then try teaching them to do things differently. Or go find people whose behaviors you like more.
"But I'm not their parent. But people don't change. But it's too hard. But..."
If you don't do something, then you have no right to complain and should instead turn inwards to quash your dissatisfaction. Otherwise, you simply accept the status quo by inaction, vote yes with your life, and hypocritically enable the enemy.
Dissatisfaction is natural, and it's healthy. If you can fathom an alternative, enough to know the world might easily be different if only people saw things your way, then you can push one step further and find an action towards that better world.
Few of us complain about living on a rock 3 planets from the sun. We tend to accept it. But there's one guy seriously trying to hop to planet 4...
Those who do things know that their complaints are best framed as aspirational commentary on a work in progress. Curious dialogue invites us to participate and unites us on the same team. "Want to come with, to Mars?"
The change we seek might take some time, even perhaps a lifetime. Or the lifetime of ten thousand devoted engineers. But that's how history is made.
We are all stewards of our interactions, of our communities, and of the present moment.
Mars doesn't have to be your particular destination. Wherever you want to go, today is a good day to get started in that direction.
