P vs NP and the AI World To Come

I will scope this rant to 2 topics: the idea that P = NP in the limit, and the idea that there will in fact be a permanent underclass. I prove it with math.

Business as humanity has known it is convergently solved by smart incumbent (benevolent) monopolies and the AI doomers are kinda partially right in that their principles did in fact allow them to build Claude Code and make ungodly revenue because the technology actually does work and the people who work at Anthropic are legitimately smarter than you.

I should have been one of them. Anthropic should have hired me! But Dario didn't in his AI Godly wisdom as billionaires do, they didn't even respond to my emails. So...

OK, let's dive in.

First, as credibility, I am friends or have been at one time close physically in synchronous time to the following (solely Anthropic) people and they are probably my neighbors right now in SF where I pay $6k/mo for our apartment:

1. Daniela Amodei, who interviewed me as I drove from Saint Louis to San Francisco for the people ops team at OpenAI and rejected my application lol. She is Dario's sister. She probably doesn't remember me. That's fine.
2. Drew Bent. Good friend, now an education lead there after building a little thing he cofounded with Sal Khan. he would probably tell you Andy is wacky these days and we lost touch since he got deep in the EdTech weeds with Schoolhouse, Anthropic, his new wife who I have yet to meet, just classic 30s life post-college. Great guy.
3. Cat Wu. She trained me to not screw up the Corp production database at Scale AI like Shivaal before Mark Zuckerberg paid $30B to the AI talent wars last summer and made all my former colleagues with patience to last more than 12 months under Alex Wang rich. jk jk love you Shivaal Roy no hard feelings you shouldn't have ever been fired and i also should not have resigned yay.
4. Jin Pan, Jonathan Marcus, too many people to name and verbally hug on this blog post. Lots of smart Anthropic humans. Love you all. Tell Dario (and Amanda Askell) to hire me before you take over the world please thanks.

Secondly, as credibility, you need to be aware that I have actually:

• sought out Ankur Moitra's advice because he was a better prof than Peter Shor teaching 18.200 so he got my office hours shout-out blog. Peter Shor is the guy who breaks encryption via Quantum Computers, he was a terrible teacher even tho he was a genius at the Putnam exam which now Claude Fable will ace in 2 seconds and it is pointless to get good at as a 18-22 year old math genius. The next Terry Tao will not look like Terry Tao it looks like Claude. Look it up, and ask Yevgenii if you don't believe me (F'15 semester).
• friends with Michael Sipser, who wrote the book on Theory of Computation and told me at dinner he got 75% of the way to solving P vs NP roughly, and it wasn't a great feeling. best math guy in MIT's history as the only one who made it to Dean of Science as a human who could actually talk to other humans. true facts. ask Scott Aaronson or something.
• hung out with Stephen fucking Wolfram (and lovely wife Elise) for at least 3-4 hours if not 7 at All In Summit 2023 where i stupidly paid $7.5k as a "VIP ticket" like a fool. waste of money. Hanging with Wolfram was a highlight of my life tho, as any good science nerd would report.
• Seth Lloyd was my freshman seminar advisor. He's the guy they fired at MIT for getting funds from Epstein which made no sense because Epstein literally was a math nerd who liked raping little girls and his love of math wasn't the problem ok - google it. lol. poor Seth, I stand by Seth Lloyd and Junot Diaz and Joi Ito, great humans all 3 of them. who cares if they got money from Trump's NSF and Kratsios or Epstein, who cares?
  • funny seth lloyd story aside: in our freshman seminar i asked what he was doing one monday
  • he literally said "i'm dusting off a $40k paper for Google, so that's another semester of my daughter's tuition at Brown paid for!"
  • he's so funny & invented the first viable Quantum Computer as a MechE professor at MIT, he's legit. ok? don't fire him because epstein gave him like $10k once. fire him because he's too much of a baller to be a prof and should just go work at Google Deepmind for Demis the nobel king like everyone else who's worth 2 cents in science. ok?
  • jk he never got fired just bad press. stupid press. what are you doing.
• i am not a mathematician. i just like hanging out with them and pretending to be Erdos. ok? Also anyone who claims to solve P vs NP is instantly discredited if you are not a tenured professor who has published something at least on the ArXiv if not Nature the science journal. so good luck!

OK, if you haven't yet heard my Wolfram story, here it is. We are sitting in the picture above as Elon talks and the one thing I am brave enough to lean over and say is "hey Stephen what do you think about Tesla, you know, Elon's company?"

Wolfram goes, zero hesitation, "Oh, well I don't really know why you'd like their cars. They don't yet have sufficient range for me to be impressed." Most people stop there. Wolfram continues: "but, I guess it was nice of Elon to send me a car so when it arrived at the house, I thought it was kinda good of him."

I was like jaw on the floor celebrity moment. Who cares if Elon throws cybertrucks at his slaves who work for him on SpaceXai whatever and IPO and become rich like Gwen Shotwell and donate $350M to poor kids. Nobody cares. OK.

The real story is how Elon casually sends cars to nonbelievers whose science he likes. You think science in America has a funding problem and Trump is cutting budgets, no, let me tell you, Trump hired the world's greatest Philanthropist named Elon Musk to slash government budgets with DOGE while becoming a personal trillionaire, so that he could help America also become a trillionaire instead of $40,000,000,000,000 in debt as a government.

America has NEGATIVE $40T. As a country, if we were a person, we all citizens (including Elon) have a country with a negative net worth of not just zero dollars like me a humble $200k savings guy burning his retirement doing stupid blog posts like this instead of working... We have negative zero dollars as a country. And one man Elon Musk has over a trillion dollars of personal wealth as a human.

What is this werld please explain yourself America? Help?

I tried to explain it to myself in Andys.Blog/USA which i was quite proud of writing because plot twist another credential is that Tyler Cowen emailed me about it. So suck it lame writers who don't know what they are talking about on rdrama when you cyberbully Andy Trattner and tell him he's having a mental crisis. Back to P vs NP. They are equal. Give me a million dollars now. OK?

For the uninitiated P vs NP is the most famous and notorious unsolved problem in mathematics and theoretical computer science. To prove it you have to show either:

1. a complete impossible exhaustive list of reasons or arguments why a statement like A & B & C but NOT D (~D) are true for all (∀) random variables A B C D, within some 4^k steps where 4=n the input size of a 4 random variable boolean sat statement (more below).
   1. this would show that P ≠ NP and you actually win a million dollars. It is one of the 7 most hard math problems in the history of math and AI is nowhere close to solving it.
   2. OR
2. a complete exact proof that P = NP (which I am showing you here), and it probably just looks like a simple example of showing an algorithm where you solve TSP = the traveling salesman problem
   1. ok got it nerds?
   2. TSP is the problem of giving a general algorithm

I'm too lazy to write more math papers so it's easier to just tell you. I genuinely believe P = NP and am willing to defend it on podcasts and public interviews with any mathematicians the world wants to provide me.

You know how math is getting solved right, by AI? And people on the internet are freaking out, including legit mathematicians? OK, well, here is my actual math paper proving all the above, but really it's better said in a blog rant don't you think?!

The paper, if you care to read it argues the specific exact mechanism for why P = NP in the limit, but only as t --> ∞

So we won't know until we are dead and AI has all the compute in the universe! Just like Asimov predicted with his vac story good to read honestly.

Here's how I prove all of this. P really does equal NP and I can just point you to a man named Stephen Wolfram from the picture above. Just go read wolfram and you tell me what he's working on for the last 40 years in his genius mansion as a billionaire who Elon sends cars to for fun. You tell me!

I will tell you after 7 hours sitting with him in 2023 it was obvious to me then as it is now that the real answer is his concept of "computational irreducibility" as explained to Dave Freidberg on stage just hours before we had lunch:

OK to conclude for today on the andys.blog show, the permanent underclass is real and if you are not a billionaire you don't have access to the computational resources to do something like rDrama with agent bots to incept the culture.

So you should work on becoming a billionaire, ok, wait— that's hopeless for most people and the best you can do is find a nice wife, Scretarymaxx her ass and then you lobotomize yourself by following Chamath's advice to Retardmaxx yourself. Second, P = NP and I proved it with my math paper from January 9 2026 above, but nobody cares and it's September so the world is cooked.
